This show is getting better and better. I live in a hurricane zone and I'd been looking forward to this all week. Great, practical information and still more emergency field medicine tecniques. Especially liked the advice about the tourniquet; I'd always heard that you remove a tourniquet every five minutes. Good thing to hear the correct information.

HI I recently seen the surviving a hurricane episode. I believe the gentlemen named John Allen may have some facts incorrect of Hurricane Andrew Aug 1992.
People did not die in hurricane Andrew just because they went outside or walked around .. Concrete block homes were blown down flattened or annihilated, thus leaving people open to the elements to be harmed or killed. Perhaps such as the little girl who was decapitated, as well as other horrid things that happend to people.
There were more then 60 /70 people that died in Andrew 1992.
Hurricane Andrew is verrrrrrrrrrrrry touchy subject among us locals around here.
Please be careful of what you comment about.

I watched this hurricane episode tonight and the more i watched it the aggrivated i became. Fist of all anyone who waits till 1 hour before landfall to try to leave is stupid for even trying at that point you are to stay put. Second of all i live in homestead florida and was living in homestead when hurricane andrew directly hit and the comments made by the man named John Allen who survived andrew was ignorant of the facts he mentioned during the show. He stated that most people who died during andrew were foolishly messing around outside implying that the people who died were not inside the safty of their home he could not be more mistaken. people were found in lakes and on the streets and in trees next to the rubble they once called home not next to a house that was still standing. people didn't leave their homes they were blown from them. he also mentioned a little girl who was decapitated by a piece of plywood what he didn't mention was that piece of wood it was accually a 2x4 and it went trough a concrete block wall before it decapitated her. now on to the death toll offically is around 65 indirect deaths and 26 direct deaths which could not be more missleading considering they are not including the hundreds of migrant farmers also know as illegals that no on counted i was here i know what the us locals saw. I just feel if your going to do a show about surviving a hurricane don't include facts about past events without first fact checking them.

This is a great show...the details may have been incorrect regarding the reasons people had for being outside or in an inadiquate shelter during Andrew...but the fact still remains that they were not properly protected. From this episode I understand that if my house gets leveled them I'm hurrying for better shelter asap.
I look forward to this every tuesday night. I remember that in an airplane hijacking I need to enter 121.5 on the cockpit radio to communicate!! Good job fellas!!! Please keep up the good work!!
Oh and was born in Ft.Lauderdale and have lived here since 1980.

Great show.... very informative. I agree leaving is the best way to avoid this situation but should you be there due to unforeseen circumstances every bit of knowledge helps.

This man is a charlatan. Anyone who takes this guys advise and attempts to cross a river during a hurricane will most certainly be killed. The writers of this show have obviously never experienced a hurricane; anyone watching this show in any sense other than as a satire is in mortal danger. The worst thing about this idiotic advise is that it masquerades as truth, blending random useless facts with dangerous fiction.
After watching the hurricane episode, I have realized that following this mans advise on anything would be worse than making up your own tactic on the fly.

You all are correct. In my opinion, you should leave the area that the hurricane is going to hit at least a day before the storm, if possible. head inland. So that way you can hopefully aviod all those hazards.

I love this show! Cade is crazy hardcore! In respect to the guy with arm injury, there may be one more thing you can try, depending on the wound. If you can clearly see the artery he is bleeding from, you can tie it off with a shoelace or floss, or if you have a first aid kit with hemostats in it, you can use those to clamp the artery above the wound. It could save his life and arm, if the bleeding continues, you would have to use a tourniquet, saving the arm is no good to him if he's dead. I've had heavy rain and wind and flooding since Tuesday from Ida, so I thought this episode was appropriate. Thanks fo saving our lives, Cade!
